You are what you eat... (I am an Almond Joy Pretzel)

FUN FACT ABOUT ME #2: My favorite color is Blue.
I guess that is one way to explain Sage Blue.

Filipinos are currently celebrating Halloween and All Saints' Day with all these Halloween parties going on, several children in the block with their costumes on and florist displaying all their lovely bouquets of different varieties of flowers.

"It's beautiful!"

Of course, my family went out to town to pick some lovely flowers and yes it's quite exhausting to choose the best among the rest and not to mention being price wise as we journey to the west side of the park we get ascending prices and as we reach the far east it begins to descend.

West Park (scenario)

Me: "Miss, how much for these yellow chrysanthemums?"
  Florist: "That would be P 200 a dozen, ma`am."

East Park (scenario)

Me: "Miss, how much for these yellow chrysanthemums?"
Florist: "That would be P 120 a dozen, ma`am but I can give it to you for a hundred."

"See what I mean?"

Anyway, after we had carefully bought our desired flowers we went on to enjoy a treat in one of the new local chilling spots here as some of you may be familiar with their product:

Top Pretzel: Almond Joy, Left: Strawberry Delight, Right: Choco Crunch
I am an Almond Joy: which for me defines a native of Asia, simple,  and I guess the joy speaks for itself. ü

Left to Right: a mix of lychee and green apple, plain chocolate

These actually remind me of my home-made Cinnamon Pretzels which I mistakenly put in the salt directly with my yeast mixture and oddly ended up with quite a normal pretzel despite of the dough not rising. Nevertheless, lesson learned with that one and that's what I'm here for (to learn) so next time maybe you can extend your expectations a bit as I recreate a new pretzel to add to my Filipina creations.

  "Fingers crossed!"

Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

All Saints' Day (Philippines)

All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows, Solemnity of All Saints, or Feast of All Saints is a solemnity celebrated on the 1st of November by the Catholic Church and several Protestant denominations.

"At least that's what the Wiki said."

For my family, we celebrate this occasion traditionally. Before the first of November we go out to town and seek for lovely flowers to be brought in the cemetery offered to our departed loved ones.

"Why?"

Simply because we believe that during this day, those who are no longer among us are as pretty much alive and remembering us as we remember them. Hence,

"The Communion of Saints."

The food we prepare during this day all consist of one main ingredient which is Glutinous Rice: glutinous in the sense of being glue-like or sticky when cooked and not because it contains gluten.

In our home you can find:

"Suman - It is made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk and sugar."
"Valenciana - It is a Mediterranean cuisine as cooked in the Valencian Community, Spain. Its basic ingredients are vegetables, seafood, meat and of course glutinous rice."

No matter how you celebrate this day. Extravagant or not. It is always important to keep in mind the true essence of All saints day. And this is me wishing you the best of times in this occasion.

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar in wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

You are what you eat... (What am I?)

FUN FACT ABOUT ME #1: I am Filipina.

I guess that is one way to explain Filipina Indulgence.

Filipinos seldom have that sweet tooth and most of us are not fond of desserts especially after meals. Our meals are not prepared in three courses and by that statement, I'm speaking for the average to lower class families
"Really, Sage?"  or just for myself.

Either way, we don't enjoy much of the sweet treats on a regular basis and by regular I mean "regular". We need to spend in bake shops to indulge ourselves on what nature seems to deprive from us.

   "Well that escalated quickly."

But honestly, it's not your (Filipinos) nor nature's fault. It's maybe the thought that scrumptious desserts, aside from what we traditionally prepare during occasions, are only available in expensive fancy restaurants and cafés and never in an arms reach.

   "Fact or Fiction?"

Let us discover this together, Filipino or not, as an amateur baker like me continue my learning on sweet creations and take on the challenge of enjoying indulging treats in the comforts of our own home.

   "Price wise!

After all, "You are what you eat..."

So each day we will unravel who we are through the food that defines us. It won't hurt to be a little sweet
[1 Corinthians 10:31] So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
